SUMMER

I’m sick of being cold now, I’m sick of London looking grey and miserable and dead. Lifeless.
I’m ready for a bit of warmth in the air. I’m ready to rock my sunglasses and playsuits and shorts and crops etc. I’m ready for people to be friendly in the street. I’m ready for the ice cream man to pop on by. I’m ready to be told off for not wearing sunscreen (WEAR SUNSCREEN KIDS) and end up sunburnt even though the sun was only out for about 20 seconds. I’m ready to moan about all the big, hairy men taking their tshirts off at the first sign of a bit of light around. I’m ready for coke floats and for being in cars with the windows down. I’m ready for the summer jams to blast out of the radio and to only be able to dance for a little while because it just gets too damn HOT. I’m ready to lay on the grass (yes, grassssss) and look up at the blue skies and imagine that I’m seeing shapes in the clouds that I’m probably not. I’m ready for a bloody BBQ! You know I love a hotdog. I’m ready for flowers, beautiful flowers to be growing all over the place. There aren’t many things I love as much as I love flowers. I’m ready to have my windows open. I’m ready to go out without wearing a coat and being layered up. I’m ready to spend a lot of money on hayfever tablets and then them still not work properly when I smell freshly cut grass. I’m ready to see colourful rainbows and imagine some little Irish leprechaun chilling at the end of it with a hefty pot of gold and a lot of good luck to give to someone. I’m ready for sand and beaches and I’m ready to get my spark on in the summer sun.
This will be my first summer since leaving school. I’m ready to have some fun. I’m excited and I’m ready.
Get a move on, London. Sun, where you at?
